Most fulfillment evaluation frameworks are written for generic e-commerce. Here is what to check before signing.

Why fashion breaks a generic fulfillment evaluation

A jacket is not one product for customs purposes. It is a product whose duty rate depends on fiber content by weight, whether it is knit or woven, and who it is designed for, men, women, or children. Cotton, synthetic fiber, and silk garments each carry distinct most favored nation duty rates ranging from around six percent to over thirty percent, and that is before any additional trade measure applies on top. Confirm the platform integration works at the variant level, not just the parent SKU

Fashion brands rarely run on a single commerce platform. Test DDP calculation against your hardest garment, not your easiest one

A generic apparel duty rate applied across an entire catalog will overcharge simple garments and undercharge complex ones. The real test is whether the platform can calculate DDP accurately for a garment with mixed fiber content, an unusual construction method, or a classification that could plausibly fall under more than one HTS heading within chapters 61 and 62.

Because fit-driven returns are structurally unavoidable in fashion, the real differentiator is not whether a partner accepts returns, but how efficiently the reverse flow operates. Ask how quickly a returned item gets inspected, restocked, and made available for resale, since a garment sitting in transit or in an inspection queue for weeks is inventory that cannot generate revenue twice in the same season.

A partner with accurate DDP calculation but weak returns infrastructure will still lose margin to a category defined by high return volume.
